El Dafra PV2 Solar Power Plant Located in Abu Dhabi, the Al Dhafra PV2 solar power plant project is one of the largest single photovoltaic power plants in the world, and is also a landmark turnkey project in the field of green energy under China’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative.
China National Machinery & Equipment Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of the Group, undertook a series of work such as topographical geological survey, design, equipment supply, civil construction, installation and commissioning, and was also responsible for the two-year operation and maintenance of the power station, so as to achieve an all-round integrated and high-standard service.
Covering an area of 20 square kilometres with an installed capacity of 2.1 GW, the project adopts the world’s advanced photovoltaic (PV) power generation technology and is equipped with nearly 4 million PV panels, 300,000 piles, 30,000 sets of tracking racks, more than 2,000 sweeping robots, 8,000 string inverters, 180 box-type transformers, and more than 15,000 kilometres of cables, making it the world’s leading power plant in terms of performance and power generation efficiency. As of mid-November 2023, the project has already contributed a total of 3.6 billion kWh of clean electricity to the UAE.
Upon completion and operation, the power station will be able to supply electricity to 200,000 households, helping Abu Dhabi to reduce carbon emissions by 2.4 million tonnes per year, increasing the share of clean energy in the UAE’s total energy mix to more than 13%, and contributing to the sustainable development of the UAE’s national energy economy.
